The atmosphere at their home stadium was far from happy during the weekend fixture. Lazio were trailing against Torino, an opponent that had let in 10 goals while netting just two in their most recent five league matches. Ultras from the Curva Nord were concluding their ongoing dissent in a long-running conflict with chairman Claudio Lotito.
A Season Unraveling?
Had their campaign coming unstitched, or did there exist any cohesion holding it together to start with? They reappointed Maurizio Sarri as head coach this summer, only for him publicly stated that the club had not mentioned a ban on new signings they were set to be hit with for fiscal problems. Rumours that he might quit were not true, but he stated that Lotito had "deceived" him.
Lazio were just as chaotic during matches as behind the scenes, defeating Verona 4-0 and Genoa 3-0 but falling short in the rest of their opening fixtures, which included the capital clash. At any given moment, observers have struggled to tell if progress is being made or collapsing.
The Youngster's Unexpected Comeback
A single player remained positive through it. Matteo Cancellieri had not been expected to feature for Lazio this season. He was on last season with Parma on loan and, at the start of the off-season, his owning club were attempting to stay there temporarily. The signing restriction necessitated a reconsideration. The club couldn't risk to weaken their team with no new signings.
Cancellieri arrived in the first place when Sarri was last in charge, back then just 20 years old alumnus of Verona's academy. He made 20 Serie A appearances in Lazio colors in the 2022-23 season, almost all of those as a substitute. The club's longtime sporting director, Igli Tare, whose tenure ended following that term, later stated Sarri of "informing all Cancellieri would be a star then never playing him."
Discovering His True Position
Maybe Sarri was continuing to attempt to identify the exact type of his skill set. Originally described as a flank player when he joined, Cancellieri yet was deployed for much of that season as an unconvincing alternative to Ciro Immobile in the striker role. During 63 outings during spells with Empoli and Parma during recent campaigns, he scored seven times. Shoehorn
