Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since March of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and regular reactions on court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four early break points in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
